| I began playing at the age of 7 and studied with traditional private methods that were available at that time. When I entered the University Wisconsin-Milwaukee to study piano and voice I was fortunate to have Jeffrey Hollander as my piano professor. He encouraged me to focus on the emotional rendition of classical pieces. I later studied at the Conservatoire de Paris where the focus was on my technical rendition. My studies with Jose Sentis, the great composer of tangos and pasa dobles encouraged me to pay close attention to the rhythm. I feel that all students should focus on these three aspects - rhythm, technique and emotional expression. I believe in starting all new pieces slowly and with both hands together. Sight-reading advances more rapidly if notes are not written in but learned to be recognized on sight. I use a variety of different method books and tailor them to each student. I also believe that we play the piano and that there should always be something to play that really excites the student. My students are encouraged to perform and piano concerts are held twice a year. These concerts reflect their varied interests in classical, jazz, ethnic, and popular music. For students interested in classical trainig, coaching for the ABRSM exams for Grades One - Eight in Piano and Theory is also offered.
